EUCARPIA (http://eucarpia.org) is an association of scientists and breeders which, since its creation in 1956, promotes in Europe scientific and technical collaborationS in the field of plant genetics and breeding, in particular through the organization of congresses. These congresses, first limited to participants of European countries, became progressively international and renowned. The vegetable section, one among the eleven EUCARPIA sections, is organized by crop groups, such as the Capsicum and Eggplant group, the first congress of which happened in 1971 in Italy. The 16th meeting occurred in 2016 in Hungary (https://eventegg.com/eucarpia-capsicum-eggplant-2016), with participants originating from 29 countries.
INRA is the organizer of the 17th Capsicum and Eggplant EUCARPIA meeting, which will be held from 11th to 13th September 2019, at the Avignon Popes' Palace. Some 200 participants are expected.
The Congress Scientific Committee includes French and international scientists, leaders of different research topics of Capsicum and Eggplant Genetics and Breeding.
The Congress provisional program consists of 5 scientific sessions :
- Genetic Resources and Domestication,
- Resistance to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses,
- Nutritional value, Quality traits and Yield,
- Biotechnology and Genomics,
- Pre-breeding and Breeding
The official Congress language will be English, given the international audience.
