Eggplant resistance to Ralstonia solanacearum, a tropical bacteria, emerging in temperate conditions on solanaceous crops.

RESAUBER Project

Bacterial wilt is a vascular disease caused by a soil borne bacteria, widespread in tropical areas and pathogenic over a wide range of plants.  The particularly diverse, recombining and mutating genome of this bacteria, as well as the detection of some sporadic attacks,  suggest a strong risk of emergence of this disease in temperate conditions.  Eggplant is the solanaceous crop  where sources of resistance of utmost interest have been identified, since they control most of the genetic diversity of the bacteria. One major gene, controlling many bacterial strains has been identified in one genitor. Do you long for knowing more ?  Marie-Christine Daunay, scientist at the INRA research unit GAFL, summarizes the results obtained by the research project Resauber.
